Monsterpocalypse Board Game Being Adapted Into Movie by Warner Bros.

Publish date: 2024-10-08

Warner Bros. is in talks for the rights for a movie adaptation of the “Monsterpocalypse” board game with “Evil Dead” director Fede Alvarez attached.

Alvarez will pen the screenplay with his writing partner Rodo Sayagues.

The studio submitted the top bid for the rights package, which also generated bids from DreamWorks and Sony, but has not yet closed the deal.

“Monsterpocalypse” is a board game from Privateer Press that pits monsters against monsters. The game is played on maps, which resemble cities, with monsters battling to the death while destroying the structures.

Privateer Press’ released games include “Rise,” “I Chomp NY,” “All Your Base,” “Monsterpocalypse Now” and the latest series, “Big in Japan.”

Alvarez, a native of Uruguay, broke into Hollywood with the 2009 short “Panic Attack!,” which saw giant robots attacking the Uruguayan capital Montevideo. That led to a gig with Ghost House Pictures to direct 2013’s remake of “Evil Dead.”

He has also directed the horror movie “Don’t Breathe,” set for release by Screen Gems on Aug. 26. The film stars Dylan Minnette, Jane Levy, Stephen Lang, Daniel Zovatto and Sergej Onopko.
